She'd been keeping to herself a whole lot since things changed. She didn't know how to talk to anyone, people looked at her differently and treated her differently. Most people she knew didn't recognize her. At school, no one talked to her. She kept a brave face on for the most part, not really telling Andrea most of the things she dealt with, only because she didn't want her to feel sad. There wasn't anything she could do, anyway, but just wait until she turned back.
She was walking home close to dusk, her backpack slung over her shoulder, when she first felt something was off. She glanced over her shoulder and noticed there was someone else on the quiet street with her, and he seemed to look away when he saw her watching him. She didn't think much of it, but as she turned the corner toward the apartment she realized he had both gotten closer and he was turning the corner, too. Before she realized what was happening, she felt a hand clamp down on her arm, sending her off balance to the point she would've fallen had the person not been holding on to her. Spun around to face him, she could see then and there he wasn't just doing it to be mean.
"Let me go!" she exclaimed loudly, immediately trying to pull out of the grip. She didn't know what was happening, but she was about to scream until she saw the flash of what looked like a knife. He made it very clear he was holding it a few moments later, his hand going to her mouth to shut her up.
"Do what I say and you won't get hurt," he warned, sneering at her. Frightened to the point of muteness, she stared wide-eyed at him as he started to drag her forward. She didn't know where they were going, but she was old enough and had been taught by more than one person that going anywhere with a stranger was bad.
